Friday Funday
Before I became a mother, I spent a lot of time dreaming about becoming a mother. I’d close my eyes and let my mind sweetly wander to the moments I’d spend quietly reading to a child, engaging in messy art projects, snuggling in bed late in the morning, and running outside, playing until we had noticeably sun-kissed cheeks. I am quite sure that in all those years of imaginary moments I never, not even once fantasized about interrupting my coffee time to play Chutes and Ladders at 6:45 in the morning.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Stop by on Monday when several bloggers including yours truly will be writing for The Beautiful Like Me Project. For the next post WickedStepMom has asked people to contemplate, What features/qualities would we like today’s children to see as beautiful? It’s a good thing I have the weekend to think about it because as usual, I have no idea what I”ll write.
If you’d like to join in and post for the Beautiful Like Me Project, click here.

But Chutes and Ladders is only fun until 7:30 am! After that, it loses it appeal.
WickedStepMoms last blog post..Was it a Mistake?
My morning consisted of staggering out of my bedroom, meeting The Young One at the bottom of the stairs to hand him lunch money, where he looked at me and said, “I know…eat breakfast, brush my teeth and comb my hair.”
Later, as he stumbled past me, I said, “Weren’t you supposed to comb your hair?” to which he replied “I DID.” So I said, “With a COMB, not your fingers.” He stomped back up the stairs, smoothing his hair with his hand and muttering, “Don’t listen to HER…you look fine.”
I miss Chutes and Ladders…
Jans last blog post..The Envelope, Please…
@WickedStepMom: Thank God Fridays are school days at Chez Shout and by 7:30, “the pullleeeaasseee Mommy, just one more game” could be answered with my, “But Aaron, you have to get ready for school. All your friends are waiting for you.” He’s getting to an age where friends are
finallyactually, more fun than Mom.@Jan: Hilarious. He definitely has your sense of humor.
Enjoy it. They’ll stop wanting to play games/do puzzles with you and you’ll miss it terribly. I nearly cried the other day when my 18 year old suggested I play a computer game with him.

Can you bond over computer games? Jan would say, “YES”, but I’m claiming ignorance thus far. I do enjoy it though, I promise…it’s just the early morning part I struggle with.
Ah, I remember things like that and thinking , “Just a few minutes to myself, please??”
Now mine our teens and when they are home and being good company I ralize I miss those moments.

My motherhood dreams were far more serene than my reality
At least it’s a game with easy rules? My kids like to make up games for us to play at that hour and I can never for the life of me get them right…
Tracys last blog post..Really, I am usually pretty fun
Now, that’s not playing fair!!!
Did you also not imagine trying to drag them out of bed as teenagers before noon everyday?
Good luck with your writing fodder development over the weekend. Here are some ideas from which to push off:
1. Chutes and Ladders
2. Unconditional Giving
3. Cat slobber
4. Loving Kindness
5. Waltzing every time someone bursts into song during The Sound of Music
6. Eye boogers
Good Luck!
@ Margaret: Hah! Eye boogers just may be what the writing doctor ordered, or cat slobber…now there’s a topic I can embrace.
Oh you love it and I know it!!
Monday is coming fast!
Amy @ Five Flower Moms last blog post..A Friday Thought
@Amy: I do, but not before I’ve had my second cup of COFFEE. Caffeine and good parenting go hand-in-hand at my house
)
I totally understand getting those first cups of coffee in the morning before being able to fully function. I do love playing games but not that early in the morning. I love that as my kids got older that we could play games that were a lot of fun for all of us. And we still play games when we get together now that they are adults…and thankfully they don’t ask to play early in the morning!
Loris last blog post..A Rite of Passage
If I’m playing chutes and ladders at 6:45 a.m. it better be because I’ve changed careers and now I’m a fireman.
My brain doesn’t wake up until at least 8. You’re amazing.

So, I’m think Chutes and Ladders and coffee probably go pretty well together.
