Wondering on Wednesday: Your Favorite Surprise
It was 14 years ago today that my husband and I met in a rather chance encounter. We’re still trying to figure out who got the better part of that April Fool’s joke. We met online, back before it was cool to do so, before people were actually looking for other people online, back when AOL was all the rage. It was a bit of an accident, a quick exchange of messages in which neither of us could have possibly suspected we’d become pen pals and then phone buddies and then best friends.
I’m Wondering on Wednesday: What has been your favorite, most cherished surprise?
Don’t forget to check out WickedStepMom’s Beautiful Like Me project. The first round-table post goes up Monday, April 6th. Can we count on you to join in?

Falling in love with Bear, because I never set out to do so. And then falling in love with his girls.

You want me to pick just one? I don’t know if I can do that.
The day in 1983 when I heard the words, “It’s a boy!”
The day in 1987 when I heard the words, “It’s a girl!”
The day in 1993 when I heard the words, “The divorce is final.”
The day in 1995 when I heard the words, “He’s going to live – and he’ll be okay.”
The day in 2008 when I was kissed under a lemon tree in Hawaii and realized, yes, I was Mrs. Beloved.
Too many to choose from, Tricia!

BOTH phone calls when we found out we chosen by birthmoms as the family they wanted to raise their children. The calls were three years and 1 day apart. I’ve never been so surprised or terrified in my entire life.

Happy sort of anniversary, Tricia!
Like Jan, I’m not sure I could pick a favorite because I’ve had so many and they’ve all meant different things to me.
I will say, the births of all my children and grandchildren are a given…….so it would have to be the day I met HBL. I’ve always thought the Savage Garden song “I knew I loved you before i met you” was exactly how I felt. Finally, there was the piece to the missing place in my heart.

I can’t remember when I was surprised, may be the day in our Japanese concentration camp in August, when we heard the sound of a plane: “why is that Jap flying over us all the time?” Then we saw that the plane scattered pamphlets. A woman picked one up and read that the Japanese were defeated. All of a sudden the Dutch woman who was campleader came with a large Dutch flag ( red, white and blue, see my post of “that’s My World” of last week Tuesday). That was a surprise!
