I Need to Be a Better Negotiator
My husband and I have fallen into some comfortable routines and although we share in most domestic responsibilities there are two areas that somehow we’ve each claimed as our own. For the last five years Kim has cooked dinners and after we eat and enjoy some family time, I put our son to bed. Our little arrangement has worked just fine except as soon as I put away the story books and turn off the lamp, I fall asleep all cuddled up with my charming mini beast.
Sound adorable? Probably, but these evening naps interfere with important things like the two nights a week there’s actually something on TV I want to watch. You can laugh right now and rightfully call me a socially inept old fart who has no clue about current popular culture, but TV bores me, except on Thursdays and Sundays.
I devised a little plan to make sure I’d actually be awake on my TV viewing nights and suggested to my husband that he put Aaron to bed two nights a week. He readily agreed and Kim and Aaron have been enjoying some extra snuggle time.
My husband, the consummate business man that he is, must believe in an eye-for-an-eye and that no good deed goes unpunished. He’s come back to the negotiating table and asked that I start cooking two nights a week. Does anyone remember where I hid my damn apron?

You know, I read the title, and started reading your post and my brain did not take me to you cooking two nights a week. Just saying..

I’d forgotten what it’s like to have young children. Cooking 2 nights a week doesn’t sound like too bad a trade-off…
My husband and I never negotiated these things…they just evolved. When I put the younger one to bed, he would never let me leave. So eventually Daddy started doing the bedtime ritual.

Mr Psuedo used to cook…occasionally. I think he had someone take his apron to Timbucktoo and leave it on a cliff somewhere.
Good luck on the negotiations.

There is one way to get out of this Tricia, make Kim meatloaf thoese two nights and I KNOW that he will change his mind in a hurry. Or you could always make just a veggie night.
LOL
XOXOX
Hey, I know of this really cool site that has some yummy and easy recipes!
Oh, and just tie a dish towel around your waist…that’s what I’d do if I could find one that, erm, fits there.

I too fall asleep in my son’s bed on a regular basis. It’s becoming a problem as he gets bigger
Dinner two nights a week eh? I like Donna’s idea… good luck!

And what is on Thursday nights that’s worth watching? Other than Sundays I don’t turn the tv on!

I think it’s time you bought yourself a box of Hamburger Helper… after one night he’ll be begging to cook!
MHS grills and makes great breakfast but that’s it. I love to cook though so that’s not a problem. I need to be a better negotiator about the dishes. Good luck with your re-negotiations.
What’s on Thur and Sun?
I wish Briefcase could cook. How cool would THAT be?
HBL jumps in and helps me cook and sometimes does it all himself, then he cleans up. I think I’ll wake up from this dream but after all this time…..it’s still happening so I must be doing something right.
Good luck with that cooking thing. Maybe get those takeout menus ready for Thursdays and Sundays.
Oooo, definitely take Jan up on her recipe ideas, her Walmart Pad Thai is just awesome. Well, technically, the ingredients shouldn’t come from Walmart, and my attempt didn’t really resemble Pad Thai, but I’m sure you would have better luck
.
Are you kidding me? Two nights a week? I would kill for my husband to cook just one night a week. He claims he can’t cook and my dinners are too nice to give up but I know this is a cunning plan to keep me chained to the cooker.
I blame his mother!
OOoo, clever guy! So how’s Pizza Hut sounding?
