I Just Want My Way

Several years ago a dear friend drew this for me. I was going through a rough patch with work, and we were still enveloped in our five-year battle with the fertility gods.

I was touched that she’d taken the time to illustrate what I look like in the morning, but wondered if she was peeking through my windows to see how bad it really is before my first pot of coffee.

With work dilemmas and arduous baby-making riddles filling my days and nights, people kept advising that I be patient. My friend knew my reserve of patience runs shallow to begin with, and I was tapped out.

Patient is not a quality I’d use to describe myself, and in fact I’ve decided it’s perfectly acceptable for adults to throw full-blown tantrums, just not in front of the children, please.

The more people tell me to be patient about something, like I’m just supposed to sit around and wait for things to happen, the more I want to throw myself on the floor and flail. Apparently I’ve never really passed that two-year-old developmental stage.

What about you? Are you all grown up or do you still just want your way?

I want my way EVERY F-KING DAY!!!! lol.

    I’m spoilt that way. :)

And oh, how I hate it when people tell me that - BE PATIENT. THINGS WILL HAPPEN.

Sometimes, I used to think out loud to some who said that to me, and really wished I could return their assvice, YEAH, JUST LIKE HOW YOU SHOULD BE PATIENT. YOUR NOSE WILL GET SMALLER. Then, when they really do piss me off with their Be Patient assvice, I return it back to your face. :)

Maybe I’m not grown up yet. I still want things my way. :)

We all still have the inner child thing going and of course we all want our own way.But as adults we all know that this is not always an option, unless of course you are a good manipulator.Which by the way I think that I am pretty good at.

I want it my way and there are times I just might start kicking and screaming … I know you said not in front of the kids … but heck you should see the thirteen year olds face when I start whining like she does.

Oh but you know me, all things happen for a reason and if/when it is meant to be, it will!

I just finished throwing a tantrum. Broke the bedroom door in fact. I don’t want my way *all* the time. Just once in a while. And I never ever get it.

As a middle-aged adult whose children are almost all grown and gone, I think I’ve spent enough of my life putting everyone and everything first and completely deserve to have my own way, at least some of the time. The problem with that, of course, is I’d forgotten how to put myself first and stand up for what I want.

It’s coming back, and now I’m beginning to see a bit of the future that’s just for, well, ME. It’s mighty fine.

I can deal with not getting my way all the time, but after so much ‘giving,’ I’m not going to wait for someone to give back…I’m just going to take. Patience is a virtue, but so is being wise and aware enough to realize when your patience is screwing you over!!

This one is easy…of course I always want my own way! I guess teh qeustion is, how well does one cope, knowing one cannot always have it. Unless one is manipulative, spoiled, or Queen.

Its an interesting conundrum that we’ve reached the point where we can legitimately tell our daughters that they can do anything they want to if they just work hard enough. Interesting because two of the things that were once upon a time in fairy tales promised to girls, being a wife and a mother, don’t necessarily come with harder work.

and yes, of course I want it my way.

    Patience is over rated.

I’m the toddler on the floor next to you, pitching my fit. I give my 3 year old a run for her money some days!
