Happy Birthday Beautiful Daughter
Today is my stepdaughter’s 21st birthday.
I’d love to tell you all sorts of things about her but I don’t know where to begin. I suppose I could start with how smart, articulate and emotionally intelligent she is. I could tell you she’s drop-dead gorgeous and already she’s a seasoned world traveler. I could tell you how much I love her witty and dry sense of humor or how we instantly bonded when she was only eight-years old. I could tell you how she melts her father’s heart when she still calls him daddy, or how my heart swells with pride every time I think about her, but all of these things seem to read empty on the page.
Let me tell you this instead: After 13 years together, her heart and mind make me smile as much as when we first met, and there are few things I’m as proud of as I am of our relationship. Having her in my life was a driving force behind my desire to overcome a five-year battle with infertility. I wanted to be the mother of someone as amazing as she is.
Happy Birthday, Ashley! May your courage and convictions help you to accomplish every dream you may dare to dream.
