Freshly-Brewed Home
When I’m away from home I miss my son, my husband and our canine twins like a sail misses the wind. I look forward to our reunion, to hugs and kisses and to catching up on all the details left absent from our intermittent phone calls. But I have a secret. There’s something I miss so terribly, so heart-wrenchingly that it creates an abyss in my soul and makes me ache for a rapid home-coming.
It’s my coffee pot. A gleaming mass of stainless steel and black plastic that whispers and giggles my name every morning in a bounty of aromatic steam. The joyous machine I’ve spent hours perfecting proportionate brewing with … the dream-realizing, happy-day-starter with an automatic turn-on and thermal carafe that fits perfectly in my elbow’s crook as I lovingly carry it to my office before the sun rises. There really is no place like freshly-brewed home.

I am glad that you made it back to your sanctuary. It is so amazing to have the little comforts of home. It is the simple things in life that make me happy as well. A smile on my daughters face, a hug from my husband and a nice visit from my sister. I now realize how hard it is to leave your children and I really apreciate you coming to spend time with us and to give your neice some love.

I love my coffee pots, but I think my secret desire would be getting back into my own bed.

I have one of those coffee pod coffee-makers. Its like a love affair; I would trade it for all the chocolate in the world!

Yikes! I think my coffee maker is going to be angry with me later.

Kristy: Thanks for not saying, “it’s about time” you got your tush up here to spend some time with your niece. And, that I was able to attend a family wedding and celebrate your birthday…all in one weekend, that’s called a multi-purposed trip. Phew. I’m tired.
Gary: I too have a secret desire for my bed when I’m away from home, well, for my mattress actually. It’s a glorious memory foam thing. The fact my husband happens to occupy half the mattress is a really nice added bonus.
WickedStepMom: I was REALLY worried when I first read that you’d trade your coffee pot for all the world’s chocolate. They are ALMOST of equal value, but I’d have to tip the scales for an early morning cup of java if I had to choose between chocolate and coffee. I was so relieved to read your trade was actually a type :o)
Jen: I think I need a hand towel that says exactly that. I missed you and all my blogging friends too. I was having blogger withdrawals. The symptoms are not nice. Have you had that happen? Nasty isn’t it.

when I am away, if there isn’t good coffee, I panic. Thus, I take my french press and coffee in my suitcase and all I need is boiling water

For a thing I depend on so absolutely, I treat my coffee maker horribly. I mutter and stumble around while holding it and filling it with the necessary accoutrements, then stand over and yell at it to “BREW, DAMMIT!!” while it does its job with nary a complaint.
No human being would be so selfless and faithful. Or come with a warranty.

Sorry, not really a coffee person.
The only thing I can’t live without is my hair straightener. Without it, I turn into a troll and the hair has a mind of its own and I become Diana Ross.
VA-VA-BOOM!!!

I don’t make sense in the morning until I’ve had at least 2 cups of coffee. The rest of the day? Yeah, that’s just me… I’m just worse in the morning.;)

Trica, i am sorry i missed you the weekend you came up to celebrate a birthday and wedding and a little TLC for you new niece. I am only now beginning to understand the draw of freshly brewed caffine. It only took 30 years for this discovery.

Oh… see… I think that you and I have quite a bit in common, but here is where we diverge. I need Dunkin Donuts minimum wage staff to fix my coffee. It just never tastes as good when I make it myself.
