The New Food Pyramid

July 22nd, 2008 • Related • Filed Under

Have I told you this before? Have I told you how I really believe chocolate and coffee are the sixth and seventh food groups in the pyramid of must-consume dailies? Really people. I’m not joking here. This is serious stuff. It has nothing to do with living a longer life, but it has everything to do with living a happier life. I can’t figure out whey the FDA hasn’t reconstructed their pyramid to include these essentials. So, I’ve gone ahead and done it for them. Let me know if I’ve forgotten anything…

In Other News…

I’d like to thank Jan over at Jan’s Sushi Bar for awarding me with this cheesy wonderful trophy. It’s fabulous, darling, just fabulous, and apparently it even comes with a bilingual rule book, which Jan was kind enough to translate and edit. (Go check out Jan’s recipe for Chocolate Martinis).

And, here she is in all her glory…

Arte Y Pico Award

Arte Y Pico Award

Rules

1) You must choose 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for creativity, design, interesting material, and contribution to the blogging community, regardless of language.

2) You must publish the name of each award-winning author as well as a link to his or her blog.
3) Each award-winner must post a picture of the award and link back to the blog that has given the award.
4) Both the giver and the recipient of the award must link to the “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.

5) You must post these rules.

Of course you don’t expect me to do this without some long-winded explanation, right?!

I hereby award this stunning virtual trophy to:

Amy at FiveFlowerMom. When she recently discovered she’s expecting her sixth baby, she was a tad nervous to tell her family, so she announced it via her blog. Now, that deserves recognition for “interesting blogging.”

Jen at The Story of Us. She’s started a cool project titled, “Random Acts of Kindness” which I think is deserving. Go check it out and pick up her RAK button. She’s also been absent for several days and seems to be in a bit of a funk. Maybe the golden goddess statue will cheer her up.

Kathy at Mama’s Losin It. Kathy announced quite a while ago that the main reason she went public with her blog was to receive an award. Enough said. I’m adding to the pile.

Mrs. Schmitty at It’s A Schmitty Life. Just go ahead and read this and you’ll see why she deserves giggles.

Brandygirl because she actually left a comment here to remind me that some day my little boy will start noticing boobs. I’ve been drinking constantly ever since, and plan to stay in a state of denial.

I am adopting your new food pyramid-may I suggest the addition of buttery mashed potatoes. I think they are worthy of their own group.

Congrats on the Arte Y Pico award! And cheesy is a good thing.

It could also be added to your pyramid. Yum. I’m trying desperately to loose weight and Thomas told me I need to give up my morning and afternoon coffee in order to do it. WTF? How am I supposed to get through the day? I already gave up Diet Pepsi. I told him he should just go ahead and shoot me, cuz life isn’t worth living without it. lol.

Basically, if you don’t pour the chocolate over the items in 1-5, you can simply DIP them in chocolate, for a balanced approach.

You know the award is for “style and substance” - you have both, m’dear!

The wine needs to be “lower” on the pyramid - you know, more servings.

    Lots and lots more servings…

Other than that - hey! I’m totally with you on this one! Should “’smores” - which I’m absurdly fond of - have their own group, or is it part and parcel of the whole “chocolate” thing?

I’m taking notes, ladies and gentlemen, it sounds like we need an entire food group dedicated to potatoes (buttery-mashed and French-fried), we need to add more cheese, move the vino down a bit to encourage larger amounts of daily intake, and we need to include a group that allocates daily allowances of chocolate MIXED with items from other groups.

Everything of course will be served with a dipping bowl that i think we need to convince Gary to create. He’s a very talented potter. Check out his beautiful creations, like the adorable purple pigs.

What else are we missing in the pyramid?

    Pizza? Is pizza in there?

And if coffee and diet pepsi have virtually no calories, why in the holy-frickin’ heck should a woman (namely Wendy) already depriving herself of all the foods mentioned here in the comments section have to take away the precious low calorie stuff as well? Should we eliminate water and melba toast while we’re at it?

Why can’t the food pyramid just be those two things– chocolate and coffee. why?

Comment by Tricia on 24 July 2008:

Margaret, I’ve already eliminated melba toast but I replaced it with pizza. And I agree, why in the holy-frickin’ heck should anyone (Wendy) have to give up COFFEE.

Madge, I do believe you make a brilliant point and I second your nomination of a purely chocolate and coffee food pyramid.
