What’s Your Party Dream?
Q. If you could throw a fabulous party and didn’t have to think for a minute about how much it would cost, where would you throw it and who would you invite?
A. I’d hire a private jet and entourage to bring my family and friends on a three-month African adventure. It wouldn’t be a typical safari-type vacation, though. Instead it would be an African chocolate party where we would travel across the continent giving chocolate to children.
Yea, I know chocolate isn’t exactly a pressing humanitarian need, but this is a party so indulge me, and chocolate makes children smile. I like smiles. I can only imagine how many times my son would smile if he were handing chocolate to children.
We’d sing and dance and learn local folklore. We’d listen to drums around camp fires and we’d party with the locals. And while we’re there, we’d add helping hands along the way in whatever capacity we could—volunteering in medical clinics and schools, dispensing food supplies and children’s vaccines, and working on sustainability projects. We’d share the culinary skills of the personal chefs we’d have in-tow who would cook for everyone.
Just as our adventure was about to end, we’d all head to Sir Richard Branson’s private game reserve, Ulusaba, for a week of luxurious indulgences, some much-needed rest, and a big-five safari. We’d take great advantage of the spa services and gourmet food. Each day at the lodge would begin and end with a massage, and in between we’d having nothing mandatory to do except enjoy the scenery.
We’d reflect together about everything we’d seen, and we’d revel in the new light that would spark in our children’s eyes as they start to catalog their memories and ideas of what it means to be part of a bigger world. Of course we’d be doing this while holding cocktails and being pampered.
What’s your party dream?

I would make it a month long party…rent a tremendous house, bring all of our family and best friends, and go to Disneyworld! I would love to see the grandmothers with the kids. The cousins and best friends together. It would be fantastic!

I would rent a gigantic yacht and sail the Greek islands with all of our family’s favorite friends. And I’d make Martha Stewart be our personal chef. Maybe Matthew McConnaghey would be the deck hand. Wait, all of the sudden this is going in a strange direction…

Manager Mom: I want to sail with you if you’re having Matthew McConnaghey as a deck hand, and Mrs. Schmitty, grandmothers and children all in the same place does sound fantastic, especially with a little Disney magic thrown in.

I like yours! I’d probably stay home, have a bbq, swim, drink some beer and give the money that I would have spent on a huge party on some charity.

There are so many places that I would love to visit and as long as I was with my family I am sure they would all be wonderful … but for sake of “choosing” I will say that I would love to travel the United States with my children, spending lots of time in each state. I just think that this would be a great way to really learn about our country. Then once that was done … I would want to visit the rest of the world.

I would hire a private jet and start in Ireland, Visit all the local Pubs and listen to all the folk lore. Then it would be on to Switzerland and party in one of the ski resorts at the bottom of a mountain and revel over the swiss alps. I am talking about never having to lift a finger or do any thing for any one accept talk eat drink and be merry. Back in our private jet to Disney world for all of the children and adults, Disney is a lot of fun for adults.I would then go to every city across America and hand out sleeping bags and pillows to the homeless. You can’t change them so make their lives a little easier. I would end it back home with the most beautiful fire works you have ever seen in the field in back of our house, ( we live in VT and own 50+ acres.)Every one would have an easy chair to sit and watch with wait staff at our every whim.

Okay now I reread the post and I am going to add this … I was thinking vacation but for just a party … I would want to go to Hawaii, I have been there and would love to take my family! Oh but there are so many beautiful places … this would be tough! I think everyday should be a party, so we can cover all these fun things!

I would have a party just for me. That way all the guests are guaranteed to go away happy, and yet there will be minimal work for the hostess.
I’m not much of a party person I guess.
I totally agree about the chocolate. I wrote a post a long time ago about how chocolate does so much for me, and I can have some anytime I want, and it just kills me to think that there are millions of people all over the world who will never even taste it. I proposed a charity to my audience of ten or so to raise money for chocolate for people in third world countries, but no one took me seriously. Can you just imagine a little boy dying of AIDS getting a taste of chocolate?

The party I would want to throw would involve all of The Tribe’s favorite foods and it would be in a magical place that everyone could get to without great expense or hotel rooms involved. As a family, we are spread out quite a bit and anytime we get together there is always hassle involved. So, my party would be more focused on getting everyone together without a problem.

I would love to take both sides of my family to Sicily, Italy for two weeks.

What a fun concept! I’m enjoying everyone’s responses. I’d throw a massive party at the Griffith Observatory just north of Hollywood in Los Angeles. We’d make it a red carpet event and get the tabloid press involved, only for them to ask, “Who here is famous?”
