Writing is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.

Sunshine for Lunch

sunshineWe rarely eat at fast food restaurants so it’s not surprising that my four-year-old doesn’t know about the children’s menu at McDonald’s. But a few months ago we met my son’s playmate for lunch under the big arches.

I ordered my little guy a Happy Meal and when he heard me place the order, he hugged my leg with glee and said, “Thanks Mommy. I wouldn’t have liked a sad meal.” Then he paused and processed before coming back to ask, “Mommy what makes it a happy meal; is there sunshine in it?”
