Writing is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.

You Can Blog About Me…an update on motoring mom

The phone rings and I can see on the caller I.D that it’s my mom.

“Hello,” I answer

“Hi. What are you doing?”

“I’m working. What are you doing?” I’m distracted by a client’s email that just popped up in my inbox.

“I called to to tell you that you can go ahead and blog about me again.”

I forget my client. Nobody’s ever called to say I can blog about them. In fact it’s usually quite the opposite. I get things like, “You can’t blog what I just told you.” Or, “That better not find its way into Shout.” One of my favorite little dittos came via email the other night when I blogged something and within minutes had an email from the Graphic Goddess who asked, “Girl, how much cold medicine have you taken tonight?”

“I can blog about you?” I asked Mom a little tentatively just to make sure I heard her correctly. “What is it about you that I can blog?” Better to ask up front than to just take this at face value.

“I just passed my motorcycle license test,” she said.

“Yahooooo,” I sang. “Congratulations. I’m so excited for you.”

Thanks to everyone who left comments here to encourage her, and to family and friends who harrassed her in-person or via e-mail. I know she’d deny it, but I’m sure it helped.
