Writing is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.

— Winston Churchill

I’ve Found the Fountain of Youth

I’ve found the Fountain of Youth. Really. For years I thought it was in a bottle of wrinkle cream, but I was wrong. If you want to feel like a teenager again, simply book a few days at Chez Mom & Dad.

There’s nothing like staying with your parents to make you feel like a kid again. It’s the strangest thing. I’m an independent 36-year-old woman with a child of my own, but I walk into my parents house and it’s like being 14 all over again. I forget where the kitchen sink is and how to run the dishwasher. I leave my morning coffee cup sitting wherever I happened to discard it. My room is a mess and I stay up past my bedtime.

We’ve only been here for two nights and already I can feel the years melting away. I’ve even rediscovered my child-like whiny voice. I think having me in the house again is also proving to have an anti-ageing affect on my mom. She must be remembering fondly her days as a young mother. Yesterday she asked me, “Tricia do you have to pee? You’re doing the potty dance.”
